Opoku Afriyie played several years with Asante Kotoko before playing with Oak’s Hearts before finishing his football career.
He was the highest scorer in the 1979 and 1981 Ghana Domestic Football Season.
He ranked 8th on France Football African Year Gong Footballer in 1982.
Opoku Afriyie is among 20 other Ghanaians named by CAF for the award of the best African player in the last 50 years. He was a part of the squad that won the 1978 African Cup of Nations rendering Ghana the first nation to capture it three times.
He scored two goals in the tournament’s final.
